Why is my Neighbour blaming our roofer?

Why is my Neighbour blaming our roofer?

We called the roofer who came out to have a look, when he asked the neighbour to point out the damaged tile it was far over nowhere near our side of the roof and so our roofer has said this is nothing to do with him and thinks he is trying to get free work done on his roof.

Why did my next door neighbour damage his roof?

We live in a terraced house and a couple of weeks ago had our roof completely re-roofed. Our next door neighbour came round and claimed that a part of the felt underneath his roof and the tile above have been damaged due to our roofer walking on there.

Is there any law that applies to roofers?

There is no legislation that applies specifically to roofers. However, as a business person engaging in activities that are potentially hazardous there is certain legislation that you should be aware of. Health and safety legislation in particular is very important in the roofing industry.

Can a roofer get attorney’s fees for disputing a judgement?

Under current law, a roofer may only receive attorney’s fees for disputing coverage, if the difference between the judgement and the settlement offer is greater than 50% of the disputed amount. For these reasons, roofers should seek advice of counsel in drafting and enforcing AOB agreements and formulating settlement demands.

Why did my roof insurance claim get denied?

If your roof insurance claim is rejected, it is most likely because of one of the following reasons: Lack of maintenance: Failing to perform routine maintenance on the roof is one of the most common mistakes homeowners make. It shows the claims adjuster that you could have prevented the damage but did not make the effort to do so.

Do you have to pay for a roof to be replaced?

The roofer wants the work, so he will figure out a way to replace the roof for whatever the insurance company will pay, but that doesn’t mean that the roof was replaced correctly. Was the felt replaced? Was the drip edge replaced?

What should I do before filing a roof insurance claim?

Look closely at your roof: Once the storm has passed, go outside and inspect your roof’s condition. If it looks like there are impact marks from the hail, you must report the issue. Is it better to have sloping roof or angled roof?

My quandary is that my tiled roof is sloping down but if the right side wall is angled then how do I treat the rain fall off the roof. Do I take the right hand wall higher and then lead flash the roof tiles or would I be better having a ridge on the sloping eaves on the side? Is there another alternative?

What should I do if my neighbour raised land on their side?

A set of drawings would need to be submitted to show the various ground levels and possibly involve the need for a land survey to establish ground levels in relation to local benchmark levels and buildings including yours and your neighbour`s. Why does my Neighbour have a pitched roof?

My neighbour has recently had their side changed to a pitched, tiled roof, with a pitch to the front and both sides. The roofer has put guttering on the side away from mine and the front but nothing on the shared side in the middle. This means the rain running off the side of their pitched roof runs down onto my flat roof and lies in a puddle.

How much did the neighbour put on his roof?

Yes the orange is extra felt he put on top of mine to create the join between the two roofs. It cost about £2000 for the neighbour’s roof. Would have been about £1800 each if we both had it done. I’ve taken another photo from the road which might make it a bit clearer.

We called the roofer who came out to have a look, when he asked the neighbour to point out the damaged tile it was far over nowhere near our side of the roof and so our roofer has said this is nothing to do with him and thinks he is trying to get free work done on his roof.

You have every right (legally) to expect them to not use your roof though going legal is easier said than done. Post some good pics including some from the top though from your window. And BTW chances are he would require planning permission for adding that roof.
