Why do I keep getting calls from V numbers?

I keep receiving calls from phone numbers starting with “V” the numbers are usually about 15 digits long. These seem to mostly prank calls and scammers. Anyone know what is going on?

Alot of collection agencies that electronically dial use this Vdialer to call people. The drawback to it it calls people over and over alot and makes the public mad because this long V number they see it on their caller id and do not understand what it means.

Do you get calls from the same area code?

For a while now I have been getting calls from numbers that are very similar to mine in that they have the same area code and even have the next 3 numbers the same. I usually do not answer calls I am not expecting from numbers I do not recognize so I just let them ring.
